Rename KDESVN to KVersioning

Reported by: Daniel Owned by: alwin

Description

Hi,

‘KDESVN’ is a bad name. KDE and SVN. Two abbreviated abbreviations.

‘KVersioning’ would be a better name that follows the usual KDE naming schema and explains what the application does. Without abbreviations! It can even be pronounced without stopping for every character.

Another alternate is ‘subKVersion’. Though it's link to Subversion/SVN is clearer, it is also longer and harder to pronounce.

Usually open source project turns to animal kingdom to look for a name. Or maybe some sort of plant. There must be one or two species which is able to represent "long life" or any other atribute related to versioning.

Or, you may want to try "Kisah" to replace kdesvn. "Kisah" in Bahasa means "story". Versioning is about story (of source code), no? And there's still K there ;)

Anything wrong with ksvn? This is a common pattern used by other KDE applications, ie just put a "k" in front of whatever your application is an interface for. This also has the advantage that it is immediately obvious to svn users what your application is for. Using a name which sounds good but doesn't indicate what the application is would not be a good memory cue for most users (how many new users know what krita does, for example?).

IMHO, ksvn would be just fine.

What is wrong with kdesvn? ksvn is a better suggestion than KVersioning, but i am against a namechange when it needs only changing from kdesvn to ksvn. Why the extra effort? One can inofficially say already ksvn, because it is a short form of kdesvn. The name kdesvn is already reserved for this really good program in my brain and there is no similar software, which could be accidentially mixed up with kdesvn, so no change please. SvH

Replying to audiofanatic@gmail.com:

There is already a project called  ksvn, which looks kind of abandoned, though.

Ok, most feedback looks like it wouldn't make sense. And thoutght a real long time about myself - and i think it makes no sense, too. its a "SVN for KDE" -> "kdesvn".
